Sweet and Savory Banana Paratha Recipe: A Healthy Twist on Classic Flatbread.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas (mashed)
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour (atta)
  • 1 tablespoon ghee or butter (optional, for frying)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or honey (optional, for sweetness)
  • A pinch of salt
  • Water (as needed, to make the dough)
  • Ghee or oil for frying

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, add the whole wheat flour, cardamom powder, and a pinch of salt.
  • Add the mashed bananas to the flour mixture. If you'd like a sweeter paratha, you can add sugar or honey at this stage.
  • Mix the ingredients together, and then slowly add water little by little until the dough comes together. You want a soft but non-sticky dough.
  • Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it's smooth. If needed, cover and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.

Step 2: Roll the parathas

  • Divide the dough into small, equal-sized balls (about the size of a golf ball).
  • Lightly dust a rolling surface with flour. Take one dough ball, and flatten it with your palms.
  • Roll it out gently into a flat, round shape, about 6 inches in diameter. Don't worry if it's not a perfect circle!

Step 3: Cook the paratha

  • Heat a tawa or non-stick pan over medium heat. Once hot, place the rolled-out paratha onto the tawa.
  • Cook for about 1-2 minutes, until bubbles start to form on the surface.
  • Flip the paratha, and cook for another minute. Now, brush a little ghee or oil on the surface and flip again. Press gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
  • Cook for about 1-2 more minutes, until golden brown spots appear on both sides.

Step 4: Serve

  • Once cooked, remove the paratha from the pan and keep it warm in a clean kitchen towel or in a covered container.
  • Serve the banana parathas warm with yogurt, chutney, or a drizzle of honey for a sweet treat!
